How do shoppers enter on WhatsApp or with a QR code?

Answered by Smartslip.ai · 3 November 2026

On WhatsApp, the shopper messages the campaign number, follows a short menu, and sends a photo of the till slip. With a QR code, the shopper scans the code on the pack, the shelf, or the advert, then uploads the same photo. Both paths land in Smartslip.ai. The number or code has to be the one printed on the campaign material.

WhatsApp, step by step

The shopper messages the campaign number printed on the pack, the shelf, or the advert. A short menu asks for the till slip. They take a photo and send it in the chat. Smartslip.ai checks that photo against the campaign rules and replies in the same conversation.

WhatsApp fits a shopper who already lives in chat. They do not create an account and they do not install an app. In the Wellington’s birthday campaign, shoppers used the menu often: each person opened it 16 times on average, and the line exchanged more than 128,000 messages.

A QR code, step by step

The code is printed where the shopper is already looking: on the pack, on a shelf card, in a magazine, or on a poster. They point the phone camera at it. The code opens WhatsApp, or a branded page, and asks for the same photo of the till slip. The check behind it is the same check as the WhatsApp number.

A QR code is the short step when there is no number to type. Wellington’s offered both, so a shopper could scan or message, and either path landed on the same rules.

Other ways in, same rules

A branded web page can collect the photo too. Wina Wena is another entry journey on the same campaign. SMS or USSD can start the registration, then a linked step collects the till slip. Whichever door the shopper uses, the products, dates, stores, and entry limits stay the same.

What makes the photo usable

  • The whole slip is in the frame, including the store name, the date, and the product lines.
  • The print is readable. A dark, crumpled, or cropped photo is held for another look.
  • The number or QR code on the material is the one for this campaign. A code from an older promotion opens the wrong journey.

The channel options are listed on entry channels.
